Renowned Nigerian televangelist and founder of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has opened up for the first time about the departure of several prominent gospel singers from his ministry a topic that has stirred speculation and debate within the Christian music community.
Speaking during a recent church service broadcast live across Christ Embassy platforms, Pastor Oyakhilome addressed the long-standing curiosity surrounding why several chart-topping gospel artists who rose to fame under the Loveworld Music Ministry are no longer affiliated with the church.
“Some people left because they had to. Others, because they wanted to. And in all cases, it was God’s plan unfolding,” he said. “Ministry is not a cage. It’s a calling. When the calling leads them elsewhere, we bless them and let them go.”
Although he refrained from mentioning any specific names, observers believe his comments were aimed at popular former Loveworld musicians like Sinach, Frank Edwards, and Eben all of whom began their careers under Christ Embassy before branching out into independent ministries or record labels.
Pastor Oyakhilome emphasized that the departure of artists should not be viewed as rebellion or conflict, but rather as an evolution of ministry. “Growth sometimes means going in different directions. It doesn’t mean disconnection in spirit,” he added.
The Loveworld Nation has long been a powerhouse in gospel music, launching the careers of multiple internationally acclaimed singers. While some fans have speculated that differences in doctrine or personal ambition may have contributed to the exits, Oyakhilome’s comments suggest a more reconciliatory and spiritual interpretation.
Industry analysts say his remarks may help to soften tensions and reduce speculation around the nature of the departures. For many of the artists, however, success has continued outside the church walls, with several achieving global recognition and expanding their ministries.
As gospel music in Nigeria continues to grow, both within and outside Christ Embassy, Pastor Oyakhilome’s comments serve as a rare insight into the leadership’s stance on change and growth within the body of Christ.
